Students join Make it stop to a heavy cinder block, Make it turn to a curved wooden block path, and Make it go fast to a tall steep ramp.
A toy car is too slow, going the wrong way, or won't stop. The fixes are a smooth ramp, a curved plastic tunnel, and a solid wall.
Ramp station
Set up a ramp and a toy car before Set 2. Students test the tall steep ramp for themselves, then match it on the sheet.
Did it work
Set 3 is a small design task. Ask students how they would know the solid wall worked, and accept "the car stopped" as the answer.
Split the sets
Six pages is a lot at once. Do Set 1 after a push and pull lesson and save Sets 2 and 3 for the ramp day.
