My Awesome Day casts kindergarten students as directors of a movie about a true event from their own lives, such as losing a tooth or a trip to the park. Three plan questions ask who is in the story, where it happens, and what they are doing. A six-panel storyboard runs from First to How I felt, with a caption line under each panel. It supports Common Core W.K.3. Students can dictate captions to an adult or write them.

Many students write only happy in Panel 6. Post a short list (proud, scared, silly, surprised) to give them more choices.
