Fun with Phonics fits three short tasks onto one kindergarten worksheet. Students write the first letter for sun, pig, and dog, choose between cat and cot or pen and pin by listening to the middle vowel, and complete three sentences with the sight words the, is, and my. It lines up with Common Core RF.K.3.a, RF.K.3.b, RF.K.3.c, and RF.K.3.d. An answers page gives the letters and the sight words, but not the Word Detective choices.

Quick baseline
Each task has only two or three items, so treat the sheet as a quick check, not a full lesson. A student can get all three first letters and still miss the sight words.
Watch my mouth
Say cat and cot slowly and ask students to watch your mouth. The open a and the round o look different, which helps before pen and pin, the harder pair.
Accept both answers
Sentences 2 and 3 work with the or my ("I see my red apple" reads fine). Accept either if the student can read the sentence back to you.
