Find the Adjectives

Year 2 EnglishAdjectives3 pages

About this worksheet

Adjectives for Year 2, on two pages of tasks and a one-page answer key. A box states that an adjective is a word that describes a noun. Pupils draw a line under the one adjective in ten sentences, from The fluffy kitten slept to A brave knight rode a horse. They then sort twelve words, such as dog, tiny, apple and shiny, into columns headed Nouns and Adjectives. The key underlines every adjective. It follows England National Curriculum grammar for Year 2.

What's inside this worksheet

Find the Adjectives

Ten short sentences with one adjective each, including The soup was hot and My wet boots are by the door. Pupils underline the adjective in each one.

Noun or Adjective

A word bank of twelve words and a two-column table. Pupils write six nouns, such as teacher and tree, and six adjectives, such as green and happy.

How teachers use it

Starter

Read the box aloud, then ask pupils to point to the adjective in sentence 4. It comes after the verb, so it shows that an adjective does not always sit before its noun.

Word card sort

Write the twelve words from Task 2 on cards and let pairs sort them before anyone writes. Tiny and soft tend to start a useful argument.

Next-day check

Use sentences 5 to 10 as a short assessment the following day, then let pupils mark their own work from the answer page.
