Year 2 EnglishAdjectives3 pages

About this worksheet

Adjectives for Year 2, with two tasks and an answer key over three pages. Pupils choose one word from three in brackets to fill the gap in eight sentences, such as The ice was cold, hot or furry. Page 2 shows a cake, a dragon, a snowman and a puppy, and pupils write one adjective for each. They then use one of their phrases in a full sentence. The key gives three sample adjectives for every picture. It follows England National Curriculum grammar.

What's inside this worksheet

Choose the Best Adjective

Eight sentences with a gap and three choices in brackets, for example The (tiny / huge / loud) mouse hid in a hole. Pupils write the word that suits the sentence.

Describe the Picture

Four pictures, each with a gap in a phrase such as a ___ dragon. Pupils write one adjective for each, then use one phrase in a sentence on three lines.

How teachers use it

Whole-class warm-up

Read sentence 1 aloud with each choice in turn and let pupils vote for the one that sounds right. Then they write the answer.

Partner talk

Pairs compare their adjectives for the dragon. Scary and fierce turn up first, so ask for a less obvious word such as spiky.

Reading at home

Send page 2 home and ask pupils to read the sentence from question 5 to an adult.
