Adjectives Check

Year 2 EnglishAdjectives2 pages

About this worksheet

A short adjectives check for Year 2, on one page with an answer key on page 2. Pupils circle the six adjectives in a four-sentence passage about Sam in the park, which opens Sam went to the big park. Next they add one adjective to a cake, a car and a frog, and write an expanded noun phrase for a cat. The last question asks pupils to tick the adjective from jump, green and table. The key lists the six adjectives and gives sample answers. It follows England National Curriculum grammar.

How teachers use it

End of a unit

Give it out after the adjectives lessons with nothing on the board, then use the marks to choose groups for the next lesson.

Marking question 1

The passage holds exactly six adjectives. A pupil who circles eight or nine is probably circling nouns or verbs as well.

Before and after

Set it the week before the unit as a baseline, then again afterwards, and let pupils compare their two scores.
