Describe a Character

Year 2 EnglishAdjectives3 pages

About this worksheet

A character-writing sheet for Year 2, over three pages. Pupils draw a friendly monster in a large box, then circle adjectives for how it looks, sounds, feels and behaves. Each row has four words, such as spotty, giant, tiny and colourful, and a box for a word of their own. Page 2 reminds pupils to use an expanded noun phrase, and they finish three sentences about their monster. The key gives sample sentences. It follows England National Curriculum grammar.

What's inside this worksheet

Draw Your Monster and Choose Adjectives

A drawing box, then a table with four rows for look, sound, feel and behaviour. Each row has four adjectives to circle, such as loud, squeaky, quiet and grumbly, and a box to add one.

Write About Your Monster

A reminder box with fluffy, blue fur and a loud, squeaky roar as examples. Pupils finish My monster has, It makes a ___ noise and It likes to.

How teachers use it

Plan before drawing

Ask pupils to say two adjectives for their monster before they pick up a pencil. The drawing then matches the words they circle.

Guess the monster

Pupils read their sentence about the noise to a partner, who describes what they imagine. The pair then compare it with the drawing.

Display

Pin each drawing beside its sentences and ask pupils to find the adjectives in a classmate's work.
