Two sets of four picture pairs give kindergarten students 16 labeled pictures to match by rhyme. Each picture carries its word, so students can say cat and listen for hat, or say bug and find rug. Every word is a short CVC word. The sheet targets Common Core RF.K.2.a, and the answer key lists all eight pairs: cat and hat, dog and log, sun and run, pig and wig, then bug and rug, map and cap, ten and pen, lip and zip.

“Recognize and produce rhyming words.”
All eight matches, from pig and wig in the first set to lip and zip in the second, ask students to hear the shared ending.

Before you print
Name every picture aloud once. Run and zip are the least obvious images, and a student who calls the zipper a jacket cannot find the rhyme for lip.
Rhyme extension
Once the lines are drawn, ask for a third word for each pair, like mat for cat and hat. That turns recognition into producing rhymes, the other half of RF.K.2.a.
Cut-apart cards
Cut the pictures out and let students pair the cards by hand before they try the lines. Eight pairs fit on a desk, and moving cards is easier than drawing across the page.
