Economics Vocabulary Word Scramble

5th Grade Social StudiesEconomics4 pages

About this worksheet

Ten scrambled economics words, from ONEMY to VINETCEIN, fill the table on this 4-page 5th grade vocabulary sheet. Each row gives a hint and a letter count, so students work out money, trade, barter, reward, saving, penalty, spending, currency, exchange, and incentive. Three challenge sentences then use the words in context, and five bold letters from the table spell a mystery word. It supports C3 Framework indicator D2.Eco.2.3-5, and the answer key gives every word, the sentence answers, and the mystery word VALUE.

What's inside this worksheet

Scrambled Words

Students read hints such as "A negative incentive, like a fine or a lost privilege (7)" and unscramble the letters into the answer column. They also note the bold letters they will need later.

Challenge Sentences

Three fill-in sentences about a library reading reward, what people did before paper currency, and a late fee at a video game store.

Mystery Word

Students unscramble the five bold letters into a word that describes what buyers and sellers look for when making an exchange.

How teachers use it

Two-day warm-up

Split the table over two mornings, five words a day. The letter counts help with spelling, especially CURRENCY and INCENTIVE.

Print check

Make sure the bold letters in the Scrambled column show up on your copies. Pale printing hides them, and then nobody can solve the mystery word.

Word wall

After the answers are checked, add the ten words to your word wall with student-written hints beside them.
