About this worksheet
Counting comes before drawing on this 2nd grade partitioning worksheet for Common Core 2.G.2. Four gridded rectangles ask for rows, columns and total squares, and two of them (2 by 4 and 4 by 2) reach the same 8 squares from opposite orientations. Students then draw their own partitions on four blank rectangles (2 by 3, 3 by 4, 4 by 3 and 2 by 5), writing each total. A brownie-pan story ends it: Maya cuts 3 rows and 5 columns, and students draw the cuts and count all 15 pieces. The answer key totals every grid by repeated addition, such as 5 + 5 + 5.
