Six partitioned shapes open this 2nd grade equal-shares worksheet, and every fraction appears cut two different ways: fourths as a cross-cut circle and as a 2-by-2 rectangle, thirds as vertical stripes and as a Y-cut circle, halves split vertically and horizontally. Students label each from a three-word bank, then complete five sentences using the exact vocabulary of Common Core 2.G.3: half of, third of, fourths, two, four. A final check shows an unequally cut circle beside a rectangle in four equal columns, and students tick which one truly shows equal shares.

Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.

How teachers use it

Find the pairs

After labeling, ask students to point out the two pictures showing fourths. Seeing 4 squares and 4 pie pieces share one name is the point.

Hear the blanks

Part 2 mixes half of with plain numbers like two. Read one completed sentence aloud so students hear which blank wants which.

Fold to verify

Hand out paper circles for question 12. A fold proves the top piece is smaller faster than any explanation.
