Add the Comma

Year 4 EnglishFronted Adverbials3 pages

About this worksheet

A three-page Year 4 worksheet on the comma after a fronted adverbial. Page 1 gives ten sentences with the comma missing, such as After the storm the garden was a mess and Slowly the door creaked open. Pupils add the comma or rewrite each sentence on two lines. Page 2 asks where the comma goes and why it helps the reader, then asks for a sentence of their own, next to a photo of a bat at dusk. The key gives all ten corrected sentences and model answers. It follows England National Curriculum grammar.
