Year 3 EnglishPrepositions3 pages

About this worksheet

Prepositions of place for Year 3, over three pages. Page 1 shows a bedroom with a bed, desk, chair, window, shelf, door and rug, and eight objects in it. A word bank lists under, on, behind, between, next to, beside and on top of. Pupils write where the teddy, book, cat, ball, lamp, plant, shoes and hat are. On page 2 they draw a clock, a sock and an apple from three written instructions. The key gives each answer, with a second word accepted for three of them. It follows England National Curriculum grammar.

What's inside this worksheet

Look at the Bedroom

A bedroom picture and a word bank of seven prepositions. Eight questions run from Where is the teddy? to Where is the hat?, each with a writing line.

Read and Draw

An outline copy of the bedroom and three instructions. Pupils draw a clock above the bed, a sock under the chair and an apple next to the book.

Answers

A full sentence for each of the eight questions, such as The ball is between the bed and the desk. The key also says what to look for in each drawing.

How teachers use it

Act it out

Put a teddy, a book and a ball in different places around the room and ask pupils to say where each one is before they work from the picture.

More than one answer

Some objects take more than one word. Ask whether the lamp on the bedside table is next to the bed or on the table, and let pupils argue it out.

Draw and swap

Pupils swap page 2 with a partner and check each drawing against the instruction. The key tells you where each item should be.
