Reading Common Exception Words

Year 1 EnglishPhonics3 pages

About this worksheet

Two matching tasks on Year 1 common exception words. On page 1, pupils join school, house, friend, push, pull and one to six pictures, such as a child pulling a wagon. On page 2 they match said, was, come, they, you and be to a clue about the tricky sound. One clue says the ai in said makes a short /e/ sound, like in bed, and that first answer is done for them. The answer page lists each picture match and the letter for each clue. It follows England National Curriculum word reading for Year 1.
