About this worksheet
Nonsense words give Year 1 pupils honest decoding practice, because nobody can read them from memory. This three-page sheet targets the ai digraph through alien names such as zaip, thaig and chaif. Pupils first mark sound buttons, a dot for single sounds and a dash for digraphs, then write ai into gaps to finish names like b_d and qu_n. The answer key lists every dot and dash and explains why quain splits into qu-ai-n. It follows the England National Curriculum word reading objectives.
