Eight sentences in two columns, each with three writing lines. Sentences 4 and 6, ben and i played in the park and on monday i read a book, also need Ben and Monday.

Pupils finish four starters about themselves, with two writing lines each: I like, I can, I have and I am.

The eight page 1 sentences written correctly, then sample endings for page 2 such as I like apples and I am six.

How teachers use it

Whiteboard start

Write my mum and i baked a cake on the board and ask a pupil to come up and fix it. Then pupils rewrite sentences 1 to 8 themselves.

Hidden capitals

Tell pupils before they start that sentences 4 and 6 also hide a name and a day. Without the hint most will fix only the I.

Early finishers

Pupils who finish page 2 can add a fifth starter of their own, such as I want, and check that the I is a capital.
