About this worksheet

Capital letter practice for Year 1, over three pages. Ten short sentences have mistakes, such as the dog can run fast, can i have a red pen and Mum saw tom on friday. Pupils rewrite each one on the line beneath it. Page 2 has two parts, two sentences about the weekend and a friend's name written with a capital. The key shows every corrected sentence with the fixed letters in bold. It follows England National Curriculum punctuation.

Our Names

Pupils write their own name and a friend's name, each beginning with a capital letter.

Answers

All ten sentences corrected, with each new capital in bold. Short notes for My Weekend and Our Names say what to look for.

How teachers use it

Proofreading starter

Write one lower-case sentence on the board and ask pupils to name each letter that must change before they start page 1.

Marking together

Read the key with the class. The bold letters show pupils exactly which capitals they missed.

Weekend sentences

Pupils read their weekend sentences to a partner, who checks the capital at the start and the full stop at the end.
