Family Jobs and School Jobs Sort

Kindergarten Social StudiesMy Family and Community3 pages

About this worksheet

Twelve picture cards get sorted into Jobs at Home and Jobs at School on this kindergarten social studies sheet, titled My Jobs: Home and School. The cards include feed pet, set table, raise hand, sit on rug, and pack lunch. Two reflection questions follow, and the answer key accepts either list for wash hands, clean up toys, and read a book when a child can explain the choice. The 3 pages connect to C3 Framework D2.Civ.6.K-2 on shared responsibilities and D2.Civ.7.K-2 on behavior in school.

What's inside this worksheet

Job Cards

A grid of 12 captioned pictures, from a dog bowl for "Feed pet" to children on a rug for "Sit on rug" and a toy box for "Clean up toys."

Sorting Chart

Two columns headed Jobs at Home and Jobs at School. Students write each job in the correct list.

Think About It

Question 1 asks which job was hardest to sort and why. Question 2 asks for one new job from home and one from school.

Answer key

The expected sort, with a note that three cards can go in either column, plus sample answers such as "Help fold laundry" and "Be the line leader."

How teachers use it

Cut and glue

Writing 12 jobs is slow for kindergartners. Cut the job cards apart and let students glue them into the two columns instead.

Debate the tricky cards

Hold up Wash hands and ask students to stand on the home side or the school side of the room. The split starts the talk that question 1 needs.

Classroom job chart

Fill your real job chart from question 2's school answers. A reply like "Be the line leader" can go straight onto it.
