About this worksheet

Six physical features go on an outline map of the United States in this short 5th grade geography labeling sheet. Students use a word bank of the Rocky Mountains, Great Plains, Mississippi River, Great Lakes, Appalachian Mountains, and Gulf of Mexico. Leader lines point from the map to blank labels A to F in the margin. The 2 pages include an answer key with the letter for each feature. It meets C3 Framework indicator D2.Geo.3.3-5.

What's inside this worksheet

United States Physical Features

Students write each feature name on the blank line that points to it, using every word in the six-word bank once.

Answers

Letters run Rocky Mountains (A), Great Plains (B), Mississippi River (C), Great Lakes (D), Appalachian Mountains (E), and Gulf of Mexico (F).

How teachers use it

Test practice

Section 2 of the Geography Skills Unit Test in this set asks about five of these six features, so this sheet is good practice the day before.

Line C

Tell students that C is the Mississippi River before they start. Its leader line ends just west of the river, so some will write Great Plains twice.

Color it in

After labeling, students shade mountains brown, plains green, and water blue, which turns the sheet into a simple physical map.
