About this worksheet

This 3-page 4th grade geography worksheet separates lines of latitude from lines of longitude. Page 1 has one globe with five latitude lines (60ยฐN, 30ยฐN, 0ยฐ, 30ยฐS, 60ยฐS) and five longitude lines (60ยฐW, 30ยฐW, 0ยฐ, 30ยฐE, 60ยฐE), each labeled in degrees. Students trace them in two colors. Page 2 has eight true or false statements in a table. Page 3 gives the color key and the answers.

What's inside this worksheet

Trace the Globe

Students trace the east to west lines in blue and the north to south lines in red. Every line has a degree label, so the pattern is easy to see.

True or False

Eight statements, such as the equator is 0ยฐ latitude, lines of latitude meet at the poles and the North Pole is at 90ยฐN. Students write True or False in the box beside each one.

Answers

The line colors for the globe, then True or False for all eight statements. Statements 4 and 8 are the two marked False.

How teachers use it

Set up the colors

Hand out one blue and one red pencil and ask students to trace the equator first. Starting from the one 0ยฐ line they already know makes the other lines easier to sort.

Statement 7

Statement 7 says lines of longitude are all the same length, and many students will answer False. Run a finger along two meridians on a globe before they decide.

Exit ticket

Use Part 2 alone at the end of a lesson on latitude and longitude. Statements 4 and 8 show who still mixes the two up.
