The two sounds of ow get a page of their own here. 2nd grade students sort eight words (clown, show, town, grow, owl, crow, plow, blow) into two columns, Sounds like COW and Sounds like SNOW. Then they write ow into four picture sentences, such as "The funny cl_____n made us laugh.", and read each one aloud to hear which sound it makes. Because one spelling stands for two sounds, the page fits Common Core RF.2.3b and RF.2.3e. The answer key has the finished sort and all four words.
