Find the Spoken Words

Year 4 EnglishSpeech Marks3 pages

About this worksheet

A three-page Year 4 worksheet on spotting direct speech. Page 1 has ten correctly punctuated sentences, such as It's raining again, said Tom and Mum called out, Dinner is ready. Pupils underline the spoken words and circle the speaker. Page 2 shows four illustrated characters with speech bubbles, including I've lost my hat and I love pizza. Pupils write each as a sentence with speech marks and a reporting clause, using the speaker named under the picture. The key underlines the spoken words, marks each speaker and gives model sentences.
