Add the Speech Marks

Year 4 EnglishSpeech Marks3 pages

About this worksheet

A three-page Year 4 worksheet on adding speech marks. Page 1 has ten sentences with every mark except speech marks, such as I can see the sea, shouted Jack and Watch out! yelled Ben. Pupils rewrite each on two lines, putting speech marks around the spoken words only. Page 2 asks how pupils know which words are spoken and where the comma goes in the first sentence. The key gives all ten rewrites and accepts double or single speech marks if they are used consistently. It follows England National Curriculum grammar.
