Finish the Simile

Year 4 EnglishSimiles3 pages

About this worksheet

A Year 4 simile sheet in two parts, over three pages. Part 1 gives twelve starters such as as cold as, as busy as and as brave as, with a word bank of twelve endings from a bee to honey. Pupils write the common ending on each line. Part 2 repeats four of them, as cold as, as quiet as, as slow as and as fast as, and asks for a new ending nobody else will think of. The key lists the twelve common endings and sample new ones. It follows England National Curriculum for years 3 and 4.

How teachers use it

Oral rehearsal

Before pupils write Part 2, take a new ending from each pair out loud and do not allow repeats. The class gets past ice and feather quickly.

Memory round

Cover the word bank first and see how many endings pupils know. Uncover it for the ones they are missing.

Class display

Collect the Part 2 endings on card strips and add a new one to the wall each day.
