Year 4 EnglishPronouns3 pages

About this worksheet

A three-page Year 4 pronouns sheet. A box lists the twelve personal pronouns. In ten pairs of sentences, such as Ruby has a kite and She flies it in the park, pupils circle the pronouns in the second sentence and write the noun each one replaces. Page 2 asks which pronouns replaced things rather than people and for two sentences about a friend. Page 3 is the answer key. It follows England National Curriculum Year 4 grammar.

What's inside this worksheet

Personal Pronouns

A box with twelve pronouns, from I and you to us and them, for pupils to check against.

Find the Pronouns

Ten pairs of sentences, each with a noun in the first and one or two pronouns in the second, from They share a room to Grandad bought us an ice cream. Pupils circle each pronoun and write the noun on the line.

Using Pronouns

Question 1 asks which pronouns replaced things rather than people. Question 2 asks for a sentence that names a friend and a second sentence that uses a pronoun.

Answers

Each pronoun with the noun it replaces, such as him for Ben and us for Maya and I, plus a sample pair of sentences about a friend.

How teachers use it

Class start

Read pairs 1 and 2 aloud and ask pupils what she and they stand for before anyone circles anything.

Tricky pairs

Pair 3 has him for Ben and pair 8 has us for Maya and I. Use them to talk about pronouns that come after the verb.

Marking question 2

Check that the first sentence names the friend and the second swaps the name for he, she or they. The key gives one example to compare with.
