About this worksheet

A one-page Year 3 conjunctions check, with the answers on page 2. Part 1 asks pupils to circle the conjunction in four sentences, which use because, when, so and after. Part 2 has three gaps with two choices each, such as I ate breakfast before school. Part 3 asks pupils to join The bell rang and We lined up, then write a sentence of their own that starts with Although. It follows England National Curriculum grammar for Year 3.

How teachers use it

End of a grammar unit

Set it after the last conjunctions lesson as a ten-minute check, then go through the answers as a class.

Spotting gaps

Part 2 shows who still guesses. When a pupil swaps if and so in question 7, read the sentence aloud with each word and let them hear the difference.

Marking Part 3

Look for a comma after the Although clause in question 9. The key asks for two clauses separated by a comma, so a missing comma is a quick marking point.
