Draw the Hands on the Clock

Year 2 MathsTelling the Time2 pages

About this worksheet

Two pages of clock work for Year 2. Page 1 has twelve blank clock faces in a three by four grid, each with a time written underneath. The times run from 4 o'clock and half past 6 to 25 to 10 and 5 to 12. Pupils draw the hour hand and the longer minute hand on every clock. Page 2 is the answer key, with all twelve clocks drawn and each time also written in digits, such as 4:50. It follows England National Curriculum measurement for Year 2.

What's inside this worksheet

Draw the Hands on the Clock

Twelve blank clock faces with numbers and minute marks. The times include 4 o'clock, quarter past 10, 20 past 3, 10 to 5 and 5 to 12.

Answers

Twelve finished clocks, each labelled in words and in digits, such as 10 to 5 (4:50). The hour hand sits part of the way between numbers for the half past and quarter times.

How teachers use it

Hand lengths

Hold up a large clock before pupils start and ask which hand is longer. The sheet repeats that the minute hand is longer than the hour hand.

Hour hand mini lesson

Use questions 2, 4 and 8 to talk about where the hour hand sits for half past 6, quarter to 2 and 10 to 5. It is never exactly on a number.

Partner check

Pupils swap sheets and read each other's clocks aloud. The key then settles any disagreement.
