Draw a Need and a Want

Kindergarten Social StudiesNeeds and Wants3 pages

About this worksheet

Students draw and think on this 3-page kindergarten needs and wants sheet. Page 1 has two large boxes headed This is a need and This is a want, each with a line underneath for a word. Page 2 tells a three-panel story: a family has one coin left, the fridge is empty and a toy store window shows a shiny ball. Students circle food or the ball, then write why. The answer key gives food as the choice and a sample reason.

What's inside this worksheet

Needs and Wants

Two tall drawing boxes headed This is a need and This is a want. A dotted line under each box is for one word.

A Family Story

Three panels: a gold coin marked 1, an open empty fridge and a toy store window with a ball. Students circle food or the ball, then write a line after Why.

Answers

Examples for the drawings, such as food, water, home or clothes for a need, then food as the circled choice with a sample reason.

How teachers use it

Share the drawings

Have students hold up their Page 1 pages and name the need and the want. Ask the class to agree or disagree, and note which wants some students call needs.

Act out the story

Read the three panels aloud and give one student a coin to hold. The class sees the choice and then circles the answer.

Scribe the reason

Write the reason for students who are not writing sentences yet. Accept any answer that mentions hunger, health or the empty fridge.
