Finding Maps

Map Makers

On a top-down classroom map, students draw the teacher's desk in front of the student desks, a bookshelf behind the rug, a star on a desk, and circle the door.

How teachers use it

Whole-class assessment

Read each direction aloud once and pause. The teacher note on the sheet expects students to point, circle, and draw, not read.

Watch question 7

"In front of the student desks" confuses students who picture the front of their own table. Point to the front of the classroom on the map before they draw.

Small group retest

Pull students who miss Part 2 for a quick redo with real objects. Put a ball under a chair and next to a bin, then try the playground again.
