About this worksheet
"Surviving the Harsh Desert" is a short passage with ten blanks. Students fill them from a word bank of twelve, using the cause, effect, and comparison clues in each sentence. Clues include less than ten inches of rain a year, bears sleeping through the winter, and wolves that hunt in large packs. Humid and aquatic are the two extras. Students then write two sentences of their own, one with a cause and effect clue and one with a comparison. The 3-page sheet targets 5th grade L.5.4.a, and the answer key lists all ten words.
