Real book first
Find the glossary and index in a real nonfiction book together first. On the sheet those two boxes already carry their titles, so A to D is the real test.
Caption or subheading
Caption and Subheading are the pair students swap most. Point out that a caption sits under a picture and tells about it.
Science unit tie-in
Use it the day before students read nonfiction in a frogs or life cycles unit. They can then hunt for the same six features in the real text.
