A Dear Family letter opens this 2nd grade homework and explains the two jobs of an apostrophe: contractions and ownership. Students match five contractions from a word box, write four more without help (did not, she is, you are, let us) and rewrite three ownership phrases such as "The hat belongs to Jess." Part 4 asks them to choose its or it's, Mikes or Mike's, and arent or aren't. Two sentences of their own close it. It practices Common Core L.2.2c, and the answer key covers all 18 items.
