One printout of this 1st grade map skills set serves three students, with three identical exit slips across two pages. Each slip has a name line and two short questions: what a compass rose tells us and what a map key shows. A row of five faces, from angry to very happy, lets students show how they feel about the day's lesson. There is no answer key, since both answers are one line. Last five minutes
Hand out slips at the end of the compass rose lesson. Collect them at the door and sort them into three piles: got it, almost, and not yet.
Plan tomorrow
If many slips say the compass rose shows the weather or the time, open the next lesson with a quick direction game before any new work.
Paper saver
Cut the slips apart on the paper cutter the night before. Two slips fill the first page, so print a few extra first pages if you only need slips for a small group.
