Students read the word bank and the Never Eat Soggy Waffles tip, then write a word on each of six lines around a map with a large 4-point compass rose and a two-symbol key.
A is North, B is East, C is South, D is West, E is Tree, and F is Water.
Direction song
Teach Never Eat Soggy Waffles with a hand motion for each word before you give out the sheet. Students trace the circle clockwise from North as they say it.
Classroom signs
Tape North, South, East, and West signs to the walls of your room. Students check the labels by turning to face each sign.
East and West
East and West are the labels most students swap. Have them say the rhyme and point around the compass before they write B and D.
