The Circulatory System Labelling

Year 6 ScienceAnimals Including Humans2 pages

About this worksheet

On this two-page Year 6 science sheet, pupils label a cutaway drawing of the human heart. Eight pointer lines, A to H, lead to the vena cava, the four chambers, the aorta, the pulmonary artery and the pulmonary veins. A word bank gives all eight names, so the challenge is placing left and right correctly. Arrows on the drawing show which way the blood flows through each chamber. The answer page lists the correct label for each letter. The sheet follows the England National Curriculum for Year 6 science.

Animals, including humans

What's inside this worksheet

The Human Circulatory System

Pupils write a name from the eight-word bank on each line. Labels B and C sit on the heart's right side, which is on the left of the page.

Answers

The eight answers in letter order, from A (vena cava) to H (left ventricle).

How teachers use it

Left and right

Ask pupils to hold the sheet against their chest, facing out. The right atrium then sits on their right, and labels B and C make sense.

Follow the arrows

After labelling, pupils trace the white arrows with a finger from the vena cava into the right ventricle and name each part aloud.

Add the functions

Ask for one sentence on the back about what each labelled part does. That covers the describing half of the objective.
