Year 6 MathsPie Charts3 pages

About this worksheet

A three-page Year 6 maths sheet on pie charts labelled with percentages. Page 1 shows the holiday destinations of 200 people, with Spain 40%, France 25%, UK 20%, Italy 10% and USA 5%, and six questions. They include how many more people chose Spain than France and the angle at the centre for the France sector. Page 2 shows the favourite fruit of 80 pupils, with four questions that ask for the number in each sector. The key shows the working for each answer. It follows England National Curriculum statistics and percentages for Year 6.

Both pages ask pupils to read a pie chart and work out how many each sector stands for.

Ratio and proportion

โ€œsolve problems involving the calculation of percentages [for example, of measures, and such as 15% of 360] and the use of percentages for comparisonโ€

What's inside this worksheet

Holiday Destinations

A pie chart of 200 people and six questions in boxes, from which place was most popular to how many chose Italy or the USA altogether.

Favourite Fruit

A pie chart of 80 pupils with apple 50%, banana 25%, grapes 15% and orange 10%. Four large boxes leave room for working.

Answers

Each answer with its method, such as 25% of 200 = 200 รท 4 = 50 and 15% of 80 = 8 + 4 = 12.

How teachers use it

Building from 10 percent

Work 40% of 200 together by finding 10% first, then multiplying by four. Pupils reuse the method for 15% of 80.

Check the total

Ask pupils to add up their four page 2 answers. They should make 80, and anyone who does not has a slip to find.

Angle extension

Question 6 links percentages to angles. Ask pupils to find the angle for Spain too, 144 degrees, before you teach sector angles.
