Year 2 MathsPictograms3 pages

About this worksheet

From tally chart to pictogram for Year 2, over three pages. Class 2 asked 24 children how they get to school. Pupils read a tally chart for walk, car, bus and bike and write each total. They then draw circles on a pictogram with a key of 1 circle for 2 children and answer three questions. Page 3 is the answer key. It follows England National Curriculum statistics for Year 2.

What's inside this worksheet

Count the Tally Marks

A tally chart with two gates for walking, a gate and one for car, and four marks each for bus and bike. Pupils write the totals.

Draw the Pictogram

An empty pictogram grid for the four ways to school, with a key of one circle for 2 children. Pupils draw the circles from their totals.

Questions on the Pictogram

Three questions: how many more walk than come by car, how many do not walk, and which two ways have the same number.

Answers

Totals of 10, 6, 4 and 4 making 24, the circles for each row (5, 3, 2 and 2) and the three answers with their working.

How teachers use it

Practise the gate

Let pupils tally on mini whiteboards first. A crossed group of five is quick to count in fives.

Key check

Ask pupils to say aloud what one circle stands for before they draw. Walk has 10 children, so it needs five circles.

Class survey

Run the same survey on your own class and tally the results. Pupils can then compare their chart with the sheet's 24 children.
