What's inside this worksheet

Books Read

Rows for Class 1 to Class 4 with a key of 10 books. Class 2 and Class 4 have a half symbol. Four questions ask for a row total, the class that read the most and how many more books Class 3 read than Class 4.

Goals Scored

Lions, Tigers, Bears and Eagles with a key of 5 goals and whole symbols only. Questions ask which team scored 20 goals, how many fewer the Eagles scored than the Tigers and the total for all four teams.

Answers

Answers to all eight questions, with the subtractions and the total of 50 goals shown.

How teachers use it

Count in tens and fives

Skip count in tens, then in fives, with the class before they start each part.

Half symbols

Part 1 has two half symbols. Ask pupils to say what half of 10 is before they answer question 2.

Compare the two

Afterwards, put the two pictograms side by side and ask which has the larger step between symbols and what that changes.
