Reading Pictograms

Year 2 MathsPictograms3 pages

About this worksheet

Reading a one-to-one pictogram for Year 2, over three pages. The pictogram is called Our Pets, and each paw print stands for one pet. Pupils read the rows for dogs, cats, fish, rabbits and hamsters, answer six questions and then copy the counts into a table with a total. The questions run from reading one row to adding all five. Page 3 is the answer key. It follows England National Curriculum statistics for Year 2.

What's inside this worksheet

Our Pets

A pictogram with a key of one paw print for one pet, and rows of 6 dogs, 5 cats, 3 fish, 2 rabbits and 4 hamsters. Six questions follow, from how many cats there are to how many more dogs than fish.

Complete the Table

A table of the five pets with a Total row. Pupils count the paw prints and write each number.

Answers

Answers to the six questions with the working, and the completed table that totals 20 pets.

How teachers use it

Class pictogram

Draw a paw-print pictogram of your own class pets on the board first. Pupils then meet the same layout on the page.

Counting carefully

Ask pupils to touch each paw print as they count a row, so they count the prints and not the length of the row.

Table follow-up

Set page 2 once pupils have answered page 1. The total of 20 is a quick check against question 5.
