Signs of the Seasons Matching

Year 1 ScienceSeasonal Changes3 pages

About this worksheet

Two picture-matching sets make up this Year 1 science sheet on seasonal changes. In the first, pupils join Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter to four scenes, such as a lamb among daffodils and a bare tree beside a snowman. The second set links four weather phrases, from 'Snow and ice' to 'Cool and windy', to the clothes you would wear in them. Both sets put the pictures in a different order from the words. It is written for the England National Curriculum, and the answer page lists what each picture shows.

What's inside this worksheet

Signs of the Seasons

Pupils join each season word to a picture. Autumn has falling leaves, acorns and a conker, and summer is a beach with a bucket and spade.

Seasonal signs and clothing

Pupils join four weather signs to clothes. 'Spring showers' goes with a raincoat, wellington boots and an umbrella, and 'Hot and sunny' with a sun hat and shorts.

Answers

Picture numbers for both sets, with a short list of the items in each picture, such as the bobble hat and mittens for 'Snow and ice'.

How teachers use it

Window check

Before page 1, look out of the window together and decide which of the four scenes today looks most like.

Dressing-up box

Lay out a scarf, wellies, a sun hat and mittens. Pupils pick one item and say which weather phrase on page 2 it belongs to.

Seasons wheel

Cut out the four scenes from page 1 and stick them round a circle, so pupils see winter come round again after autumn.
