What's inside this worksheet

Section 1: Multiple Choice

Ten questions cover plant roots, porcupine quills, the heart, flower petals, and a rabbit that hears a loud noise.

Section 2: Matching Structures and Functions

Students match eight functions to a word bank of thorns, lungs, skin, gills, stems, brain, eyes, and roots.

Section 3: Information Processing

Five questions follow a diagram of a fox and a mouse, from the sense receptor to the brain's response and how the system helps the fox survive.

Section 4: Internal vs. External Structures

Students label a shark's teeth, a human's stomach, a bird's feathers, and a dog's heart as internal or external.

Section 5: Constructed Response

Question 28 asks for an argument about one organism, with a claim and at least one internal and one external structure. Question 29 asks students to trace how an animal uses its senses to avoid danger.

How teachers use it

Two sittings

Give the test over two sessions. Sections 1 to 4 fit one sitting, and the two written responses in Section 5 fit another.

Day-before review

Use Section 3 on its own as review. Talking through the fox and mouse path prepares students for question 29.

After grading

Share the model polar bear paragraph once the tests are back. It shows a clear claim with one internal and one external structure.
