What's inside this worksheet

Animal Diet Sort

Twelve labeled photos sit above a table with four lines in each of three columns. Students write each animal where it belongs, and the sort puts a chicken and a person with the omnivores.

Food Chain Questions

Four questions with lines for the answers: what herbivores eat, why a bear is an omnivore, one carnivore that lives in water, and which animal is the herbivore in grass, rabbit, fox.

Answers

The completed sort and a model answer for each question. Question 3 accepts any accurate water carnivore, not only the shark.

How teachers use it

Defend the omnivores

Ask students to argue for the chicken and the human before you show the key. Both are omnivores, and the argument is where the definition sinks in.

Cut and sort

Cut up the 12 photos and let pairs sort them on their desks. They then record the sort in the table.

Question 3 round

Question 3 has more than one right answer. Have each student write a different water carnivore and see how many the class can find.
