About this worksheet

A timeline of one year, January to December, opens this 3-page 2nd grade social studies check. Four events sit on it: a New Year party in January, a garden planted in April, a trip to the beach in July and pumpkin picking in October. Four questions follow on page 1. Page 2 has one more task, numbering three plant pictures (seed planted, plant grows, flower blooms) from 1 to 3. The answers are on page 3.

What's inside this worksheet

Timeline of One Year

A line with every month from Jan to Dec and four flagged events. Students answer four questions on writing lines: what happened in April, whether the beach trip was before or after the garden, which event was last, and how many months after January the beach trip was.

Number the Pictures

Three pictures in mixed order (plant grows, flower blooms, seed planted) with a box under each for the numbers 1, 2 and 3.

Answers

Short answers for all five questions, including 6 months for question 4 and the picture order 1, 2, 3.

How teachers use it

Exit ticket

Hand it out in the last minutes of a timeline unit. Page 1 is quick to mark. Look at question 4 first, because it shows who can count months on the line.

Counting the gap

For question 4, ask students to touch Jan and Jul on the line and count the steps between. Some answer 7 because they count both ends.

Page 2 on its own

Page 2 holds one task. Copy it alone for students who finish early, or use it as a sequencing warm-up on another day.
