My School Day Timeline

2nd Grade Social StudiesTimelines3 pages

About this worksheet

This 3-page 2nd grade social studies sheet turns a school day into a timeline. Students take six picture cards, each with a time from 8:00 to 3:00, and write the events in order from left to right in six empty boxes. Page 2 has four questions that use the finished timeline: what happens right before lunch, right after recess, and the first and last events. Page 3 is the answer key. The task builds the chronological sequence skill in the C3 Framework.

What's inside this worksheet

Put the Day in Order

Six picture cards in mixed order show 12:00 lunch, 8:00 arrive at school, 10:30 recess, 3:00 go home, 9:00 reading and 1:00 science. Students write each time and event in one of six boxes along a timeline.

Read Your Timeline

Four questions with two writing lines each. Students say what happens right before lunch, what happens right after recess, and which events come first and last.

Answers

The timeline order from 8:00 to 3:00 and the four answers, each with its time beside it.

How teachers use it

Alongside clocks

Use it in the week you teach times to the hour and half hour. Students already know this routine, so the only new skill is putting it on a line.

Compare with your day

Ask students to check the timeline against your real schedule. Recess and lunch rarely land at 10:30 and 12:00, which opens a short talk about a timeline showing one particular day.

Partner check

Pairs swap finished timelines and read each other's boxes aloud. A swapped lunch and recess is easy to hear before anyone looks at the key.
