Partner sort

Cut the word bank into 12 cards and have pairs sort them on a desk first. Arguments over the lemonade stand are worth hearing, because students often think a business must be run by adults.

Discussion starter

Talk through Question 1 aloud rather than on paper. Ask who plants trees in your town, and let students work out that city workers and families both do it.

Local connection

Add a line to Question 2 asking for one real service from your own town, such as recycling pickup. It turns a general sort into a sheet about where students live.
