10 More, 100 More Warm-Up

About this worksheet

Built as a lesson opener, this 2nd grade warm-up drills the mental jumps in Common Core 2.NBT.8. A chart gives five start numbers (312, 580, 429, 607 and 793) and asks for 10 more and 100 more of each, with 245 worked as an example. Skip-counting chains then run by 10s and 100s with midstream blanks, including 682 counting up past 700. Four mental math questions finish it: 10 more than 854, 100 more than 167, Maya's 320 marbles gaining 100, and a baker's 495 cookies plus 10 more crossing into 505.

What's inside this worksheet

Part 1: Place Value Power-Up

A three-column chart: start number, +10, +100. The 793 row lands on 803, where a tens jump changes the hundreds digit.

Part 2: Skip-Counting Chains

Four counting patterns with two blanks each, by 10s from 340 and 682 and by 100s from 215 and 450.

Part 3: Quick Mental Math

Four no-pencil questions, two bare and two in story form about marbles and cookies.

Answer key

Chart values row by row and the worked story answers, 420 marbles and 505 cookies.

How teachers use it

Five-minute opener

Project the chart and think aloud through the 245 example row. Students then race the five remaining rows on paper.

Catch 803 and 505

Row 5 and question 13 are the tell. A student who writes 7103 is stacking digits instead of adding mentally.

No pencils in Part 3

Read the four questions aloud and take answers on whiteboards so the mental part stays mental.
