Students solve both sides of a set of equation cards, including 6 = 6, 7 = 8 - 1 and 5 + 2 = 2 + 5, copy each card into a TRUE or FALSE column on a sorting mat, then repair a false equation, turning 4 + 1 = 5 + 2 into a true one by changing the final number. Copy the cards, cut them out, and sort into labeled trays before anyone writes. The mat then records what hands already did.
