Life in a Maya City Reading Comprehension

Year 6 HistoryMaya Civilisation4 pages

About this worksheet

A Year 6 reading comprehension set in Tikal around AD 900, over four pages. The four-paragraph text moves through a day in the city: the sacbeob causeways, the market with obsidian, quetzal feathers and cacao, the gap between the ajaw's palace and commoners' huts, and a game of pok-ta-pok at the Great Ball Court. Nine questions follow in three sections: Retrieval, Inference, and Evaluation and Analysis. The last asks whether the market was the most important place in the city. The answer key gives model answers and the evidence to quote. It follows the England National Curriculum.
