Ten sentence frames across four sections take Year 5 pupils from choosing a relative pronoun to leaving one out. The frames range from a mysterious package to Queen Victoria and a fierce dragon asleep for a century. The sheet follows the England National Curriculum objectives on relative clauses and commas. Example answers cover all ten, with a teacher note to accept any response that makes sense and is punctuated correctly.

Pupils choose the pronoun and finish the clause, as in 'I will never forget the exact moment...'.

Pupils join two pairs of sentences, about a lost jumper and a scary film, without a relative pronoun.

Differentiation
Sections 1 and 2 suit pupils new to relative clauses. Section 4 stretches those who are ready.
