Year 3 MathsPerimeter2 pages

About this worksheet

A one-page Year 3 check on perimeter, with the answers on page 2. Question 1 asks pupils to count round a 4 by 3 rectangle on a centimetre grid. Question 2 gives two labelled shapes, an 8 by 2 rectangle and a triangle with sides of 5, 5 and 6 cm. Question 3 gives a square with a perimeter of 16 cm and asks for its side. Question 4 is a word problem about a rug 3 m long and 2 m wide. It follows England National Curriculum measurement for Year 3.

How teachers use it

End of unit

Set it after the last perimeter lesson and mark it the same day. It fits in about ten minutes.

Spotting gaps

Sort the marked sheets by question. A wrong answer to question 1 often means a pupil counted the squares inside the rectangle and not the edges around it.

Before and after

Give it as a short pre-test at the start of the unit and again at the end, so pupils can see their own progress.
